About.
Artifact Studio is an owner-operated studio based in the heart of Waihi,
New Zealand.
Andrew brings a background in precision manufacturing to every project — years
spent building carbon fibre composite racing yachts and super-yachts, where
tolerances are unforgiving and materials are trusted with a great deal riding
on them.
That same discipline now goes into framing — close attention to materials,
proportion, and the quiet details that make a finished piece feel considered
rather than assembled.
In 2017, Andrew co-founded Waihi Beach Gallery with a former partner —
and it was there, somewhat by serendipity and local demand, that he
found his way into picture framing.
In 2022 he moved on to start his own studio, Artifact Photo and Frame —
the foundation of what is now Artifact Studio.
That same curiosity hasn't slowed down. Alongside running the studio,
Andrew is currently studying design at the University of Waikato — a
deliberate choice to keep learning, and to bring new thinking back
into the craft.
Artifact Studio is the result: a small, considered practice built on precision,
patience, and a genuine care for the things people bring in to be framed.
